Hillside Golf Society was formed in the 1980’s from staff working at Plessey’s Christchurch. The founding member and first chairman was Mike Hodgson.
Back then handicaps were made up on the hoof and the rules of golf may not have been strictly adhered to. In 1987 things got more professional when the society held its inaugural league tournament with the winner being the society’s founder Mike Hodgson!! A coincidence? Maybe!
This was followed in 1995 by the addition of a Singles and Pairs match play tournament. The aims of the society is to play competitive golf in a friendly environment.
